Beauty is only skin deep, and now more than ever (but never enough), transfolks keep attaining visibility via many platforms-- film, music, poetry, art, media, politics-- (Wu Tsang, Rhys Ernst, Jos Charles, Our Lady J, Lucas Silveira, Janet Mock, Chase Berggrun, all the transwomen of FX's amazing new show POSE, etc. etc. etc.).

Beauty pageants however, have remained virtually cishet in their contestant offerings. Angela Ponce ( 28 year old transwoman from Spain) , however, just changed the damn game:

For the first time in its history, the Miss Universe pageant will have a transgender woman competing for the crown. Angela Ponce won Spain's Miss Universe competition on June 29, and will now go on to compete in the worldwide Miss Universe going down in the Philippines this December. Y'all, it's LIT!

Now, if only America can get with the program (which is a joke, given who used to run Miss Universe **sideeyes and sneers @ POTUS**).
