It's no secret that WOC have been virtually erased from every vital world event and/or movement, and it's certainly no different with American LGBTQ history.
Although the majority of queers consider the brave and beautiful Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera founders of the “Pride” movement, these two often overshadow a very important (and maybe most important) individual in the Stonewall Rebllion, today’s #WCW, Stormé DeLarverie.
In brief, DeLarverie was a biracial butch lesbian creative from New Orleans/NYC who “fought the police during the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969 and has been identified by many – and has identified herself – as the legendary “Stonewall Lesbian” whose assault by the police became the pivotal moment in the street disturbances that spurred the crowd to action.”
Learn more about this fascinating, fierce force of a woman who incited the Stonewall Revolution via the last interview she gave to AfterEllen.com.
